Confusion over B Teams plan

Confusion is growing over the introduction of B Teams from next season, as the President of Lega Pro insists “nothing has been announced.”

FIGC sub-commissioner Alessandro Costacurta declared today that Serie A clubs would be allowed to register their reserve teams in Lega Pro, the current name for Serie C, from next season.

These sides will be open to promotion or relegation, as long as they are not in the same division as their parent club.

However, the Lega Serie B complained they were not consulted and now the Lega Pro President Gabriele Gravina is throwing the whole situation into doubt as well.

“Costacurta hasn’t made anything official,” Gravina told TMW.

“His declarations were misunderstood because the idea of B Teams in Lega Pro is and remains a plan for 2019-20, but could be brought forward only in case there aren’t enough clubs to make up 60 participants.

“That does not mean that we’ll scrap recalling clubs. I am convinced that I’ve brought home a good result for Lega Pro and put some important conditions down.”
