The Giallorossi knew even a win might not be enough to avoid the play-offs, as Bodo/Glimt were one point clear and with a superior head-to-head record. Stephan El Shaarawy was injured, with Rui Patricio, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Chris Smalling left at home.

The deadlock was broken when Rick Karsdorp broke down the right and rolled it across the face of goal for Tammy Abraham to tap in from six yards.

Borja Mayoral’s angled drive was smothered, but he did score with a cheeky back-heel flick on Matias Vina’s assist.

Karsdorp saw his cross from the right flicked on and Abraham controlled to score from 12 yards, completing his brace.

Caicedo’s header was pushed over the bar by Daniel Fuzato and Catakovic got one back when he flicked up a Mai pull-back to score on the half-volley from 12 yards.

The hosts got another consolation deep into stoppages with a Wildschut scorcher into the roof of the net from outside the box.
