Condolences are coming from the world of Italian football for Cagliari coach Fabio Liverani, whose wife died today.

The news was only confirmed by one of his former clubs, Lecce, who released a statement on their website and social media.

Federica was his childhood sweetheart, meeting at school when they were just 13 years old.

They had two children, son Mattia and daughter Lucrezia.

Liverani took the Cagliari job this summer after experiences coaching at Genoa, Leyton Orient, Ternana, Lecce and Parma.

As a player, the 46-year-old represented the likes of Perugia, Lazio, Fiorentina, Palermo and FC Lugano.

The midfielder had three senior caps for Italy.

  2. correction. Federica was his ex wife. What a terrible loss especially given that they kids are both teenagers.
