Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly made the first contact with Porto’s Sergio Conceicao over the soon-to-be vacant position as coach of Napoli.

Current incumbent Luciano Spalletti is set to leave the club at the end of the season and will take a sabbatical after leading the Partenopei to their first league title in 33 years this season.

De Laurentiis had originally gone after former Barcelona and Spain national team coach Luis Enrique, although that deal soon fell through, with the Spaniard preferring a move to the Premier League as per the words of the Napoli President.

ADL’s focus has since shifted to landing Conceicao, and according to Il Mattino, the first approach has already been made.

The 48-year-old has one year remaining on his current contract with Porto, although Portuguese outlet O Jogo reports that the three-time league winner has a release clause in his contract set at €18m.

According to various reports, Napoli are prepared to offer in the region of €4-6m to obtain Conceicao’s services, and that if they are unable to bring the Portuguese on board, that Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano is the next best option.
