Sergio Conceicao insists FC Porto ‘deserved to win by a far bigger margin than just 1-0’ against Milan in the Champions League.

The former Inter, Lazio and Parma winger is now a successful tactician and praised his men for this evening’s victory.

Champions League | Porto 1-0 Milan: Diaz beats the Diavolo

“I have to compliment my team, because they played an extraordinary match,” said the coach in his press conference.

“There is no strategy that can work if you do not also have ingredients like an aggressive attitude. I think it’s the first time Milan have failed to find the net this season and that says a lot.

“We weren’t perfect, though, because we deserved to win this by a far bigger margin than just 1-0.”

Porto also rattled the woodwork, although Ciprian Tatarusanu didn’t really have saves to make.

It was a remarkable turnaround from the side that lost 5-1 at home to Liverpool only a few weeks ago.

“We worked to improve the defending, with a second striker and the wingers helping. We didn’t go with the 4-4-2 proper today, we did what we wanted and we are satisfied.”

Porto and Atletico Madrid now have four points, while Liverpool are running away at the top with maximum points.

“Liverpool’s victory in Madrid puts us at an advantage.”

  1. If you say by Milan last night performance I have to agree with Conceicao. Milan played horribly and I think that from their last few games they were sitting too deep at their own half. Might be because they are missing Theo and Brahim. Tomori also looks tired and lack of concentration.

The best thing Pioli did was to replace tomori. He was too shaky. Not his usual self. The worst move was to replace the 3 with Kalulu. He was awful. Kalulu should have gone to right back and Calabria in 3. I thought our left back was one of the few bright ones in the game during the first half. Close control and agility. The other players were just last to every ball and Leao doesn’t shine when Milan has to do the hard work. He only enjoys the ball to the feet. Did a lot of runnings tho
