Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso has claimed Elliott Management made a ‘great deal’ when they bought Milan: “I worked hard and I’m still surprised.”

The Viola patron had been in advanced negotiations with Yonghong Li to buy a large percentage of the shares in Milan, but the Chinese investor abruptly pulled out and the American tycoon revealed he never met with the former owner.

“I worked hard to buy Milan, but I never met Mister Li, maybe he didn’t want to see me,” Commisso told Telelombardia. “I’m still surprised by what happened but I’m happy too, because the opportunity arrived with Fiorentina.”

Commisso has reiterated his happiness of having invested in Florence and said he wants to stay ‘forever’ but pointed out that Elliott Management made a bargain deal after Li had defaulted on loan payments and the US hedge fund effectively repossessed Milan.

“Now, I’m happy to be here, I hope to be here forever. But it was a great deal for the Elliott fund to buy Milan at that price, much lower than what I had been negotiating."
