“A year ago, I could’ve become the President of Milan, but now I am 100 per cent Fiorentino and very happy to have bought Fiorentina,” the Italian-American businessman told Sky Sport Italia.
Commisso had been in very advanced negotiations with Yonghong Li to buy a large percentage of the shares in Milan, but the Chinese investor abruptly pulled out.
Within a few weeks, Yonghong Li had defaulted on loan repayments and US hedge fund Elliott Management effectively repossessed AC Milan.
“I haven’t spoken to (Milan owner Paul) Singer, but I do know his son. They are American, whereas I am Italian: I was born in Italy, there’s a big difference.
“It’s wonderful having two people who came from America to run the two most beautiful clubs in Italy.”
