Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso hopes the 1-0 win over SPAL can be “the turning point” and new buy Patrick Cutrone deliver goals.

Defender German Pezzella’s header was the difference this afternoon, ending an eight-round winless streak in Serie A.

“We won, but I was really scared, as always,” confessed Commisso to Rai Sport at the Stadio Franchi.

“In other matches, we’ve been more unlucky, but it went well this time. I am happy the lads have shaken off their fear and 2020 is already better than 2019.”

This was the second game with Beppe Iachini at the helm after Vincenzo Montella was fired over Christmas.

“I saw something better in terms of the performance, but it takes some time and Iachini is working hard.”

Until today, Commisso had never been present at a Fiorentina home victory in Serie A.

“I felt very emotional, as I really wanted this victory, but we stepped out there with fear, the same fear I could sense. I came here from America wondering when we were going to win the first here.”

New signing Cutrone came off the bench just days after his transfer from Wolves, on an 18-month loan with obligation to buy.

“I liked him, he threw himself in there. I hope this can be the turning point, as so far we’ve done better against the big clubs than the smaller ones. We finally found a way to break down the smaller teams, because some games need to be won.”
