Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso confirms Vincenzo Italiano will remain in charge in 2023-24, but some players ‘will leave.’

The Tuscans’ President held a press conference in Florence on Saturday morning, confirming Italiano won’t leave the club. Director Joe Barone had met the Italian tactician on Friday.

“I’ve read some silly things, Italiano has never said that he wants to leave and we will continue with him next season,” said Commisso.

“Some players will leave, unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance to thank them.”

Italiano was among Napoli‘s targets to replace Luciano Spalletti, so the Serie A champions must look elsewhere now.

“We’ll try to improve the team, we put €35m cash every year, we are in a good position financially, thanks to sales,” continued Commisso.

“I think this season has been positive, sometimes excellent. We reached two finals, but we didn’t win. We lost against Inter and West Ham, but do you think Atalanta, Juve and Lazio had better results? Where were Roma in Coppa Italia? The guys, including those of Primavera, have been little heroes. There were 176 clubs involved in the Conference League, but only two reached the Final.”

Fiorentina’s Primavera team also lost a Final, suffering a 1-0 loss to Lecce in the play-off on Friday seeing the Giallorossi become Italy champions.
