Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso warns coach Beppe Iachini ‘results count’ for his future, while Federico Chiesa ‘burned his bridges’ going to Juventus.
The patron spoke to La Nazione newspaper about the events of the past couple of weeks, including transfer deadline day and Chiesa forcing an exit towards their bitter rivals.
“I treated him like a son, whereas he did not do the right thing towards me, my family or those who work at this club. He’s a kid, so it’s better not to discuss this anymore, even if in America we say: If you go, try not to burn your bridges.
“They forced us into a one buyer and one seller situation. He didn’t want to go to England, and in Italy he only wanted Juve, who were well aware of the situation. I had to ultimately give him what he wanted as a right business decision.”
Commisso also famously said he dislikes firing people, but that doesn’t mean current coach Iachini can feel too comfortable on the bench.
“He has the utmost support from me, from Joe Barone and Daniele Pradè. He knows that, he is the coach. I told him that we were dreadful against Sampdoria, he knows that results count here. But he has our faith.”
Commisso reserved most of his ire for the local authorities and media due to the on-going Stadio Franchi controversy, as even with new laws making it easier to restructure old buildings, there are still issues.
“The problem is that someone wants me to say: ‘OK, here is my money, do what you want.’ But it’s my money and I’ll do what I want with it.
“My first idea was to restructure the Stadio Franchi, but it has been owned by the State for 90 years, so why did they wait for me to come along before working on it? They can use their own money. Why didn’t they even bother getting a designer to draw up ideas?
“A year ago I was the God of Florence, now they call me Attila the Hun. I know how it works now, they want to use Rocco’s money and make decisions in his place.”
