Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso admits ‘you can’t turn your back on certain sums of money,’ as it’s reported Manchester City pushed ahead of Tottenham and Atletico Madrid for Dusan Vlahovic.

The striker is still discussing a potential new contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, but that seems increasingly implausible, with his agents demanding huge commissions and guarantees they will be able to negotiate his sale next summer.

“At the moment it’s really a difficult thing to discuss, because even I as President of Fiorentina do not have any certainties about this,” said Commisso to news agency ANSA.

“If something happens, then the media will be informed with transparency and in good time. The intention, nonetheless, is to continue keeping him.”

Man City talks intensify for Vlahovic

There are reports the Manchester City offer is circa €80m, which is also the probable release clause that Fiorentina are trying to put into his new contract.

Commisso was therefore asked what he would do if faced with a huge offer.

“If we’re talking about €100m, then I’d think about it carefully. The pandemic caused notable damage to all clubs, including Fiorentina.

“You cannot turn your back on certain sums of money just to be arrogant.”

Vlahovic is only 21 years old and was signed from Partizan Belgrade in 2018 for under €2m, so would represent pure profit for the club coffers.

His current contract runs to June 2023 and the forward does not seem eager to sign an extension.
