As calculated by Inside World Football using the FIFA TMS (transfer match system), agents and intermediaries have played an increasing role in the rising cost of football moves.

The 2019 figure has increased radically from the previous year and of that sum, 64.9 per cent was paid by the club making the purchase.

The statistics also showed that 47 per cent of the value “came from just 50 transfers.”

Commissions can be much larger when players are free agents, as clubs compete to convince their entourage with various extras and bonuses.
