A special edition stamp has been released marking the 40th anniversary of Italy winning the 1982 World Cup, featuring Enzo Bearzot, Paolo Rossi and Gaetano Scirea.

All three are no longer with us, which is one of the reasons why they were chosen as the figureheads for this stamp.

The design was put together by the Museum of Calcio foundation and Poste Italiane, who are sponsorship partners with the Nazionale.

Coach Bearzot is depicted held aloft by his players, including former Juventus defender Scirea.

Pablito Rossi was the star of the tournament and took the Golden Boot with six goals.

It was Italy’s third World Cup triumph after 1934 and 1938, while their fourth came in 2006.

Bearzot passed away in December 2010, while Scirea was killed in a car crash while on a scouting mission for Juventus in September 1989.

Rossi died after a battle with cancer in December 2020.

  1. Let us all keep living in the past instead of fixing the issues that caused 4 consecutive bad World Cups.
