Ashley Cole has made clear he is happy at Roma and in Italy, whilst he reflects on the Giallorossi’s upcoming clash with Manchester City.
Cole is back in England this week with his new club, amid increasing rumours that his future from as early as January may be away from the Italian capital.
However, the 33-year-old has affirmed his contentment to stick at it with Roma.
“I love to play in Italy and I love Italy, the players are technically different because we play with pace and our Coach is very good,” Cole has explained to reporters today.
“He encourages us to play well and I like it a lot. I like the Premier League but also where I am.
“Leaving Chelsea? The decision to leave was not wrong. Those eight years for me were important, but now I am a Roma player.
“I could player better than currently, of course if I get the chance to play more games.
Cole was talking ahead of Roma’s Champions League meeting with Manchester City tomorrow evening.
“I feel good. It will be nice to see [former England teammate Joe] Hart and [former Chelsea teammate Frank] Lampard. I did not expect to be play against him and it will be nice if we are both in the starting line-up.
“Am I surprised Lampard is at City? Not really. We all know that City are a great team and when he scored against Chelsea he was doing his job.
“Citys’ strengths? City have players who are good all over the pitch, but we are focused on ourselves, and we will have to work even harder in this game.
“In Europe everyone knows how big City are, they are champions and have great players like Toure, Aguero and now Lampard, who are known throughout the world. We’ll see how it goes.
“And can both teams progress? I hope so, especially for Roma. For us it will be a big challenge, but we have sufficient awareness of our means to believe in it.
“If we win of course it will be much more difficult for City to progress from the group stages.”
