There were a number of clashes between Napoli and Ajax fans on the night before their Champions League match in the Campania capital.

Il Mattino details how a brawl took place between the two fanbases at a pizzeria in Via Medina, where several Dutch fans were confronted by around 20 Partenopei ultras, who were armed with clubs and flares. The incident lasted a few minutes and saw punches and kicks thrown as the groups clashed.

A little while later there was more tension on the seafront in Via Caracciolo, where around 60-70 Ajax fans gathered and attempted to get through a police cordon. The fans were then all loaded onto two buses and escorted through the city alongside a large police presence.

Elsewhere in the city, two Ajax fans were beaten up at the Banchi Nuovi square and one of the two required medical aid, luckily avoiding serious injury.

Around 2160 Ajax fans are expected to be in Naples for today’s Champions League match and the hope is that serious incidents or scenes of violence will be avoided.
