More details are emerging from the utter chaos at the Estadio do Dragao, where circa a thousand Inter fans with valid tickets were denied entry to the Champions League game with Porto and there are even claims a young supporter was thrown from a balcony.

The trouble had already begun earlier in the day when FC Porto suddenly announced nobody coming to support Inter with a ticket for any area other than the away section would be allowed in, even if they had purchased it directly from the club.

Negotiations were meant to have solved the issue, with fans warned not to bring any identifying garments like scarves or shirts if they were going to be among Porto fans.

However, as kick-off approached, it became clear that promise had been abandoned, as Inter supporters were corralled into a tunnel and refused entry.

Now more horrific details are emerging, including an eye witness who said he was repeatedly sent from one gate to another by stewards, then saw a police officer throw a young Italian fan from a balcony above the crowd.

Many others spoke to Sky Sport Italia, insisting they had been told they could not enter because they were “Italian,” as even families with young children were turned away.

They were never let into the stadium, as the gates were shut just before half-time, at 20.41 local time, accidentally also leaving hundreds of Porto fans outside too.

Many others who spoke to Sky Sport Italia had the same story, they were told to go from gate 25 to 19 and back again, four times.

Others noted they if they got past the first gate to enter the pre-filtration area, they were not allowed into the stadium itself, so could not go in or out and were effectively stuck.

All of these people purchased their tickets legally for the game and were denied entry.

Inter have said they will lodge a formal complaint with UEFA, but unlike last season’s Champions League Final in Paris, this time the club is hinting the problem was FC Porto and their stadium policy.
