Lazio have never faced Zenit or Club Brugge before, but have some bad memories of Ciro Immobile’s old club Borussia Dortmund.

The Aquile are back in the Champions League after a 13-year absence and can be relatively pleased with the luck of the draw.

This will be their first meeting with top seeds Zenit St Petersburg, although they have faced Russian clubs before with mixed results.

There was just one victory over Rotor Volgograd, 3-0 at home in the 1997-98 UEFA Cup, along with three draws.

There was just one victory over Rotor Volgograd, 3-0 at home in the 1997-98 UEFA Cup, along with three draws.

That included the Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final, where a 1-1 away draw and 0-0 in Rome allowed Lazio to qualify in April 1999.

The Biancocelesti have crossed paths with Borussia Dortmund before, winning 1-0 at home and losing 2-0 away in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals in 1995.

Their record against German sides is of six wins, three draws and five defeats.

Above all, this team is familiar to Lazio hitman Immobile, who won the European Golden Shoe last season as top scorer on the continent.

He moved from Torino to Dortmund in 2014 for €18.5m, but struggled to settle and made only 34 competitive appearances, scoring 10 goals with three assists.

Club Brugge are new opponents for Lazio, but their record against Belgian sides is two wins, a draw and three defeats.
