The Milan city council has officially lodged an appeal against the verdict which effectively banned the demolition of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Both Milan and Inter have already begun the process of building their own individual 70,000-seat arenas in different areas outside the city.
They had hoped to build a new shared stadium in the car park area next to the existing Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, then knock that arena down.
However, in July the iconic arena and specifically the second tier was placed under a protection order by the Superitendent for Archeology, Fine Arts and Countryside that is generally used to prevent changes to architecture of historic or cultural importance.
It can only be applied when a structure is at least 70 years old, and the second tier will reach that age in 2025.
The Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala and the council today voted to lodge a formal appeal, hoping to have that ruling overturned.
They still believe that Milan and Inter could remain at San Siro if given the opportunity to build there, despite the fact this project has been dragging on for years with absolutely no progress.
Undersecretary to the Minister for Culture Vittorio Sgarbi has made it clear he adamantly refuses to even consider the possibility of knocking down the San Siro stadium.
They did this to themselves.
Berlusconi has been asking to build a new stadium 20 years ago. The Milan municipal can only blame themselves for not conforming to those plans all those years ago.
