Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta says ‘confidence is high’ ahead of the ‘crucial’ Champions League clash with Roma.
The Giallorossi and Citizens square up for a crucial in-or-out European game tomorrow evening at the Olimpico.
The Italians and the English are tied at five points, but depending on the result between Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow, a draw might not be enough for either team to make it through.
In spite of having drawn 1-1 at home, City full-back Zabaleta has affirmed belief that his team can turn the result around, though he admitted that if Manchester City did not beat Roma, then they deserved to go out.
“Of course. I think we have a team, we have the players to beat Roma and obviously if we don't beat them and we don't go through, it would be bad for the team,” Zabaleta has explained, in quotes reported by ESPN.
“Confidence is high at the moment and that is what we need to play against Roma and win the game. We know it's a crucial game in the Champions League to go through to the next round.
“Roma is always a very difficult place to go and win. They have a very good team and they're second in the Italian League.
“It will be a great atmosphere in Rome, particularly for this game because they're on the same points and for them to go through would be massive.”
Zabaleta is aware of the risks but thinks the situation is different now from when Roma and Manchester City first met.
“When we lost against CSKA Moscow at home it was terrible for the team. It was very confusing about what was going on with the team.
“It was a game we didn't expect to lose. It is different now. At least we have three more points to go to Rome.
“But this group has been a little bit crazy. Roma conceded a goal in the last minute to Moscow which was a great result for us and everything is open now.
“Even CSKA have a chance to go through. We are talking about City and Roma, but CSKA have a chance.
“I think Rome is a crucial game for us to show that we want to continue in that competition and we want to go far.”
