Eugenio Corini has become the new coach of Serie B side Palermo, who are preparing for their first season under the stewardship of new owners City Group.

City Group, who also own controlling stakes in seven other clubs including Manchester City and Troyes, added the Sicilian side to their portfolio earlier this summer, finally entering the world of Italian football. The arrival of the new owners has been a welcome site for Palermo fans, who saw their club re-founded in Serie D only three years ago.

As announced by Palermo, Corini has signed a two-year contract with the Sicilian club, replacing caretaker coach Stefano Di Benedetto. Recent media reports suggested that Daniele De Rossi was one of the candidates for the role and he met with Manchester City executives recently in England, but ultimately Palermo went with Corini.

Corini spent four years with Palermo as a player, from 2003 to 2007, and also coached the club for one season in the 2016-17 campaign.

  1. Not sure why you have a Serie B section if you aren’t going to put any effort into it or keep it current.
