The CIES Football Observatory have released their predicted final 2022-23 Serie A rankings, with their statistical model expecting Inter to beat out Milan for the Scudetto.

The model suggests that the Rossoneri will finish runners-up to their intercity rivals, but will at least find themselves in the top four alongside Napoli and Juventus. Interestingly, Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta are predicted to finish ahead of both Roma and Lazio, two teams have had seemingly carried out exciting transfer windows in the Italian capital.

The CIES model predicts Cremonese, Salernitana and Lecce to all suffer relegation, with provincial sides Empoli, Spezia and Monza all just escaping the drop. Fiorentina are predicted to disappoint, missing out on Europe, and it also suggests a tough campaign ahead of Bologna.

The model should be taken with a pinch of salt, however, as their 2021-22 predictions were not the most accurate; last year, CIES suggested that Napoli would finish as runners up to Inter, Roma would finish above Juventus to secure a top four finish and that both Salernitana and Spezia would be relegated.

  1. Napoli lost half their squad, but expected to take 3rd again?

A crackhead Could have made a more realistic prediction.

  2. Have you not followed the transfer window that Napoli has had? They arguably have a better team this season than last…
