Cristian Chivu’s agent said it is “premature” to talk about an early retirement, but he will “discuss things with Inter.”
The Romanian defender has been beset by persistent ankle problems in recent years, fuelling today’s reports that he could rescind his contract and hang up his boots.
“Right now Cristian is on the American tour with Inter,” agent Victor Becali told Calciomercato.it.
“When he returns to Milan over the next few days, I will talk to him and discuss things with Inter so we can all decide what to do.
“I don’t know exactly what the situation is. Will he retire? Let’s wait a while, it’s premature to talk about that now.”
The 32-year-old has only managed 24 Serie A appearances over the last two seasons. His current contract expires in June 2014.
