The shock decision was announced by Ventura in the locker room after today’s 2-2 draw with Bologna, his first point a month and four games since replacing sacked Lorenzo D’Anna.
“It was a bolt from the blue,” confessed Romairone on Sky Sport Italia.
“We now have to take a little time and wait for cool heads to analyse the situation along with those thoughts that came out in the heat of the moment.
“At the final whistle, the Coach told me he would communicate his decision to the players. I urged him to wait and count to 10 first.
“The disappointment of the Coach emerged in the heat of the moment, but the players stand by the Coach. His demands are important and the club is doing everything possible to satisfy them, despite the objective difficulties.”
Ventura reportedly told the players that Chievo is “not his environment” and he doesn’t believe that he can save them from relegation.
“It’s best not to talk at this moment. Considering the rapport that has been created, it’s only right he speaks to the President. The Coach can make his own considerations and then it’s up to us to verify our position.
“We have not changed our minds on Ventura, we still feel the same as a month ago when we hired him. It’s a decision for the President.
“It’s wise now to take a moment, pause and reflect on the reasons behind this decision in the heat of the moment that frankly leaves us with a situation that is a little awkward.”
