Two years after the dissolution of Chievo Verona, owner Luca Campedelli has started a legal battle against various involved parties including the FIGC and former club talisman Sergio Pellissier.

The Gialloblu, who spent 17 total years in Serie A from 2001 to 2019, was dissolved in 2021 due to severe financial problems, failing to meet tax payments. After a round of unsuccessful appeals, the decision was upheld and the club collapsed.

Former club captain Pellissier refused to give up on his beloved Chievo and founded a new club for the fans, which was initially called FC Chievo 2021 before it was forcibly renamed to FC Clivense, which now compete in Serie D.

As detailed by Il Gazzettino via TMW, Campedelli has decided to launch a legal battle in the courts of Venezia against the FIGC and the president Gabriele Gravina, as well as FC Clivense and Pellissier.

The Italian businessman is disputing an ‘unlawful exclusion from Serie B’ and the ‘violation of industrial property rights relating to sports trademarks’. He claims total damages of around €140m.

The court of cassation has decided that proceedings against the FIGC and Gravina will move to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) whilst those against FC Clivense and Pellissier will continue in the local Venezia courts.
