Takayuki Morimoto’s hopes of a move away from Novara look to be dashed as Chievo pull the plug on a loan move at the last minute.

The 23-year-old Japanese international, who only moved to Novara in the summer, was set for a temporary switch 200km east to Verona, only for the Mussi Volanti to have reportedly now withdrawn their offer.

It is understood that the deal – completion of which was originally thought to be only a formality this morning – collapsed after Morimoto failed to pass the club doctors’ medical examinations, with doubts raised over a long-standing fitness issue.

The youngster has struggled in recent months with his knees, a year ago requiring surgery on his left knee and two months ago the same on his right knee.

The former Catania man had already commented upon his delight at moving to the club, in anticipation of being unveiled later today. However, it is believed he will now return to Novara.
