Juventus star Federico Chiesa has withdrawn from the Italy squad due to a muscle injury, being unavailable for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and England.

The 25-year-old Italian winger, who recovered from a cruciate ligament rupture last year, started all of Juventus’ first seven games of the season and impressed, scoring four goals and providing one assist. He was ruled out of the Derby della Mole against Torino with a muscle injury.

Despite the issue, Chiesa was called up by Luciano Spalletti for Italy’s upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and England. He did not train with the squad, instead working individually to try and be fit for the latter clash.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Chiesa will now leave Coverciano and return to Juventus, withdrawing from the Italy squad due to the muscle injury. He will not recover in time for the game against England on October 17.

Lazio winger Mattia Zaccagni will not travel with the squad for the clash with Malta, instead staying in Coverciano to prepare for the England game.

  1. Agree. What a shame. But he is emotionally terrified of playing. You can tell in how he plays.
