Juventus winger Federico Chiesa struggles with a muscle problem and could leave the Italy squad today.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the Bianconeri attacker has a flexor problem and could decide to leave the Azzurri camp ahead of the match against Lithuania.

CT Roberto Mancini has a host of absentees ahead of the third World Cup qualifier and Chiesa could be the next player to travel back to his club.

Chiesa is uncertain for tonight’s game due to a discomfort to the flexor and the player could return home, hoping to recover for the match against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Maradona on Saturday.

The former Fiorentina winger scored against Bulgaria on September 2, the only goal of the last two games in the World Cup Qualifiers, as Italy fired blanks for only the third time under Mancini against Switzerland three days later.

Chiesa has yet to score in Serie A this term, having played both games against Udinese and Empoli, and the report believes he wants to travel home in order to recover in time for Juventus’ trip to Naples this weekend.

  1. Insigne, Immobile, Pellegrini, Zaniolo all out. Murder. What a bad time. We have to play Bernardeschi up front. If we don’t win this and Switzerland beats Northern Ireland, we are heading for the playoffs.
