Max Allegri explains what is troubling Federico Chiesa after the Juventus and Italy star once again limped off just a few minutes after coming on as a substitute.

The wide forward was introduced during the 1-0 victory over Inter at San Siro, fired a shot wide and then went off again barely 17 minutes later.

Allegri was questioned about the substitution, especially as this is the second game in a row where Chiesa has made a brief cameo and walked off again.

“He has this tendinitis that he is carrying with him for a while. He is a bit scared, but it’s nothing major,” replied the coach in his press conference.

The issue seems to be in his right knee, which is not the one that had surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in January 2022.

Tests showed there are no lesions, but he is somewhat understandably erring on the side of caution after spending most of the year off the field.

It now remains to be seen if Chiesa will be risked on international duty or left at home, as Italy have Euro 2024 qualifiers coming up next week against England and Malta.
