Federico Chiesa notes Juventus ‘did what Atalanta usually do’ to win the Coppa Italia Final and jokes about Gigi Buffon’s generational victory.

This was the Bianconeri’s 14th edition of the Coppa Italia in 20 Finals, as Dejan Kulusevski and Chiesa goals around a Ruslan Malinovskyi rocket secured the silverware.

“It was a very intense Final, we have to give Atalanta credit for playing really well, but Juve showed again that experience can make the difference and we brought home the trophy,” Chiesa told RAI Sport.

“It’s true that we came on with a lot of intensity and hunger. Usually that’s what Atalanta do, they step up a gear in the second half, but this time we did it.”

Gigi Buffon matches Roberto Mancini’s record by winning six Coppa Italia trophies in what was probably his final appearance in the Juventus jersey.

Incredibly, one of those six was for Parma when his teammate was Enrico Chiesa, in May 1999, when Federico was not even two years old.

“Before the game, I told Gigi you’ve won plenty of trophies, but you won this with my father, now you can win it with me! He’s a legend, he’ll really be missed.”

This was also the first game with 4,300 fans in the stadium since March 2020, when the COVID pandemic really hit.

“We players are protected, but we must remember that everyone is suffering in this pandemic and we are so happy to be able to share this moment with the fans.”
