Federico Chiesa is pleased with Italy’s third win out of three against Wales and insists the Azzurri ‘are right to dream’ of Euro 2020 glory.

The Juventus man was named Man of the Match by UEFA, although Matteo Pessina got the goal at the Stadio Olimpico.

“It was emotional, we proved today that every player chosen by the coach will put in the performance. That’s the most important thing,” Chiesa told RAI Sport.

“As soon as the coach throws me into the mix, I do my all. It is an honour and a dream for me to wear the Azzurri jersey at the Euros.”

Wales clammed up in defence even before Ethan Ampadou was sent off, so it was just 1-0 after back-to-back 3-0 results against Turkey and Switzerland.

“I thought it’d be hotter, to be honest. It wasn’t exactly fresh, but maybe the fact we were playing well and involved allowed us to forget the heat.”

Marco Verratti made his debut at the tournament after recovering from a knee injury.

“Marco has been playing at the highest levels with PSG for years and he showed his class once again today.”

How far can Italy go at Euro 2020?

“I don’t want to say anything, but we are right to dream.”
