Federico Chiesa put Italy ahead against Bulgaria, but he doesn’t care about his goal as the Azzurri were held to a 1-1 stalemate.

The Juventus starlet broke the deadlock after just 20 minutes, but Bulgaria scored the equaliser before the break in a World Cup Qualifier in Florence.

“I am thrilled for the goal, but we should have won and we didn’t do it. Now we must go to Switzerland and play as we know,” Chiesa told Rai Sport.

World Cup Qualifiers: Italy held by Bulgaria, but Azzurri equal Spain and Brazil record

“It would have been better to take all three points home, we wanted to win and we have to focus on the next game now. We play good football and we have great ideas, we proved it tonight.

“The first game of the season is always the most difficult one. We had picked up a draw against Bosnia one year ago, but as we advanced, we proved we could achieve good results.”

Italy are the Group C leaders with 10 points in four games. They face second-placed Switzerland in Basel on Sunday. The Azzurri’s next opponents have six points in the table, but with two games in hand.

  1. Please leave Juventus. We need you in the qualifiers and World Cup. You deserve big clubs while Allegri will deploy you as a wing back.
