Italy international Federico Chiesa has again been left out of the Liverpool squad and is therefore unlikely to make his debut against Milan either.

The versatile winger turns 27 next month and his career has been dominated by injury problems in recent years.

He made the transfer to Liverpool for just €12m plus €3m in add-ons, as his contract with Juventus was running down.

Having not played at all in pre-season, Chiesa was left out of international duty with Italy for the games against France and Israel so that he could work on regaining full fitness with his new club.

Chiesa cut from Liverpool squad

It was largely assumed he would make his debut for the Reds today against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, but once again his name does not appear in the squad list.

This makes it very unlikely that Chiesa will be in the group for next week’s Champions League opener against Milan at San Siro either.

His best hope for a debut is now next weekend’s Premier League tie against Bournemouth.
