Former Barcelona captain José Vicente Sánchez insists that Federico Chiesa is an ‘interesting player’ but is unsure that the Italian star perfectly matches the Catalans’ needs.

Chiesa is not part of Thiago Motta’s project at Juventus, so the Bianconeri are discussing the winger’s sale with Barcelona.

The La Liga giants had been in talks for Nico Williams for several weeks this week, but now that the deal has collapsed, they have turned their attention to Chiesa.

“Chiesa has a good age, like his numbers. He had a lengthy injury, but he’s an interesting player,” former Barcelona captain José Vicente Sánchez told El 10 del Barça as quoted by Sport.

Chiesa is regarded as one of the best Italian players, but Tente Sánchez questions whether the ex-Fiorentina star fits Catalans’ needs.

“I am not sure he’s exactly the profile Barcelona need. With Nico, they were looking for someone similar to Lamine Yamal, explosive in one-v-one. Chiesa is a winger but is more comparable to a wide midfielder. In any case, he is a very interesting and competitive player.”

Chiesa is training separately from Juventus’ first team and is waiting for a summer transfer.

His contract at the Allianz Stadium expires next year, so Juventus are pushing for a sale in the summer transfer window.
