Federico Chiesa and Lorenzo Pellegrini have both officially withdrawn from the Italy squad after suffering injuries in training.

The Azzurri are gearing up for their first matches under new head coach Luciano Spalletti, facing North Macedonia and Ukraine in two Euro 2024 qualifiers in the coming days.

Both Chiesa and Pellegrini have started the season well with their respective clubs and hoped to feature for Spalletti’s Italy in this international break, but both were forced to stop after suffering issues in training.

As confirmed today, Chiesa and Pellegrini have now withdrawn from the Italy squad and will miss out on the matches against North Macedonia and Ukraine. Both will return to their clubs for treatment ahead of Serie A’s return next week.

Spalletti will now have to quickly rethink his Azzurri plans ahead of his first match in charge on Saturday evening. Both players were expected to feature in the coming games.

  1. If both playes end up playing well and without problems for their clubs then , questions must be asked of their willingness to play for their country!
