Juventus have confirmed that captain Giorgio Chiellini will be out for ‘around six months’ after successful knee surgery.

Chiellini tore the ACL in his right knee last week and went under the knife in Austria on Tuesday.

A statement released by Juve this evening confirmed the defender’s operation was ‘perfectly successful’.

As for a recovery time, the Bianconeri expect to have him back in early March.

That would explain why the 35-year-old was left out of their squad for the Champions League group stage.

However, he can be reinstated for the knockout phase, which begins in February.
