La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote that Bukayo Saka looked still shocked by Giorgio Chiellini’s tactical foul at Euro 2020 in England’s 1-0 loss to Italy last night.
The Arsenal winger played 72 minutes at San Siro, but according to Gazzetta he was the most disappointing performer on the pitch.
He was rated 4.5/10, less than any other player, either of Italy or England.
‘One would want to tell him: ‘No worries Saka, Chiellini is no longer here,’ wrote Gazzetta dello Sport’s Fabio Licari in his Pagelle.
‘He was still shocked, a phantom on the left flank and Southgate didn’t make his good by keeping him on the pitch for 72 minutes.’
Licari refers to the famous tactical foul committed by the Azzurri captain during the Euro 2020 Final at Wembley last year.
Thousands of England fans even started a petition to replay the match, but of course it wasn’t possible because the referee took the right decision by giving the veteran defender a yellow card.
Chiellini retired from international football in June after 117 appearances with the Azzurri.
In fairness to the player, he is a right sided forward, not a left-wing back. Southgate set him up to fail.

@rossonero83 they do cheat Sterling dived against Denmark in the Euro semi won them a penalty. Denmark Keeper had a laser aimed at his eyes during the penalty.
England would still have been crying about that had it happened to them.
Di Marco of all people made Walker his b*tch. Poor Saka (played out of position) literally didn’t get over the halfway line vs Di Lorenzo all the while £80m Maguire and co….backline was breached by Gabbiadini of all people 😂 As for Kane….I swear Acerbi and Toloi will not have an easier game in the rest of their careers.
Not to mention the only moment of glory involved a Russian linesman making stuff up.
Poor England. Beaten by Italy’s “B” squad. I have to believe they would lose cheating too.

Let’s be honest – England are a B level nation anyway. In over 100 years of international football they have played TWO finals and both at home. That’s hardly a top ranking stat. They are relegated to the level they belong.
