Italy captain Giorgio Chiellini had a goal ruled out for handball and then minutes later the veteran had to leave the pitch after suffering flexor problem in left thigh.

The Azzurri centre-back celebrated scoring after 19 minutes, but the goal was then disallowed.

The defender won the battle with two Swiss players in the area, and then smashed the ball home.

Chiellini celebrated with his teammates both on and off the pitch, but after a VAR check, the referee disallowed the goal for handball, as it hit the Juventus man’s hand on its way down.

Only five minutes later the 36-year-old Old Lady defender had to leave the pitch in agony, as he suffered a flexor problem.

Francesco Acerbi replaced the captain, who played his 14th game in the Euros and set a new outfield record.

Manuel Locatelli has since made it 1-0 for Italy after starting and finishing a brilliant attacking move for the Azzurri, you can follow the action as it happens on the Liveblog HERE.
