The 29-year-old has only recently returned to full training following injury but was controversially called up by Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli for the Azzurri’s friendly with Spain.
He has however returned from international duty unscathed and, though he has not played in a competitive game for around a month, it is reported he may even start Sunday’s encounter with the Viola.
