Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu is expected to return to Serie A as Spezia are close to reaching an agreement with the Blues.

The Wales international spent the last season on loan at Venezia, collecting 30 appearances in Serie A. He has returned to Chelsea following the Lagunari‘s relegation, but he is now expected to return to Italy.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Spezia are close to reaching an agreement with Chelsea over a loan deal with an option to buy.

The Aquilotti will pay circa €1.5m for the player’s loan until 2023 and have an option to make his move permanent at the end of the season for a further €12m.

Sassuolo and Empoli had also been linked with the ex-Venezia man, but the deal with Spezia is so close that Gazzetta claims Ampadu will sign his contract by Thursday.

However, the pink paper suggests that it’s hard to imagine Spezia signing Ampadu permanently for €12m next year.
