Diario AS claim that Chelsea are ready to approach free agent Lionel Messi, which could affect their bid for Inter’s Romelu Lukaku, but PSG remain the favourites.

The shock news yesterday evening that Messi would not be signing a new contract with Barcelona set off fireworks in the transfer market.

Manchester City announced via coach Pep Guardiola today that they will not be even attempting to get Messi, because they just signed Jack Grealish for €110m from Aston Villa.

Now Spanish paper Diario AS claim that Chelsea will be in the running with a proposal for the free agent and have demanded an urgent meeting with his entourage.

It could affect their pursuit of Inter striker Romelu Lukaku, especially as the Nerazzurri are holding out for a purely cash sum, refusing player exchanges from Marcos Alonso to Emerson Palmieri or Davide Zappacosta.

However, multiple sources are confident Paris Saint-Germain remain the favourites to sign Messi, where he’d reunite with former Barcelona teammate Neymar.
