After Milan did not take up their option to buy, Tiemoue Bakayoko has officially terminated his contract with Chelsea by mutual consent, so is now a free agent.

The midfielder has had a nightmare since making the move from AS Monaco to Stamford Bridge for €40m in the summer of 2017.

He went on a series of loan experiences at Milan, Monaco, Napoli and back to the Rossoneri again this season, but none of the clubs were interested in making the transfer a permanent one.

His contract with Chelsea was meant to run until June 2024, but turning 29 in August and with so few options available, the Premier League side has decided to simply terminate the contract by mutual consent a year early.

Bakayoko managed only three Serie A appearances for Milan this season, for a grand total of 39 minutes of football.

Now that he is a free agent, he could also agree a new contract at a significantly lower salary than the one agreed back in 2017.
