Chelsea step up talks for both De Ligt and Skriniar

Chelsea are determined to get their new defender from Serie A, preparing a new offer for Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, but also battling PSG for Inter star Milan Skriniar.

The Juve defender is on the market after failing to agree on a contract extension and expressing dissatisfaction with the general direction the Bianconeri are going in.

They finished fourth in the last two Serie A seasons and fans continue to criticise coach Max Allegri’s playing style.

There is a €120m release clause in De Ligt’s contract, so Juventus want at least €100m cash, though that can be cut down with player exchanges.

Multiple sources reported the initial Chelsea offer of cash plus striker Werner was rejected, but now Goal.com maintain another meeting is planned for Tuesday or at latest Wednesday, with different players to be put forward.

However, Sky Sport Italia also claim that Chelsea have burst onto the scene to battle Paris Saint-Germain for Inter centre-back Skriniar.

The asking price is €70m and so far PSG have offered €60m plus bonuses, but many sources assumed a deal would be fairly imminent once the Ligue 1 giants secured their new manager.

Now Gianluca Di Marzio maintains Chelsea are also in the running for the Slovakia international, having previously asked for information during the negotiations for Romelu Lukaku’s return to San Siro on loan.

It is reported Skriniar has already accepted a €7.5m per season salary at PSG.
