La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Romelu Lukaku tried to ask Inter and his former teammates for forgiveness after their decision to switch focus to other targets.

The 30-year-old Belgian striker has dominated the headlines recently after it emerged that he’d secretly been negotiating with Juventus, whilst the Nerazzurri were trying to find an agreement with Chelsea.

Inter were furious at Lukaku’s secret talks with their bitter rivals, so decided to give up on their efforts to sign him. Juventus are unable to complete a deal for the striker until they sell Dusan Vlahovic, leaving the 30-year-old in limbo.

Pages two and three of today’s Gazzetta detail how Lukaku recently contacted Inter and his former teammates to apologise for his talks with Juventus and to ask for forgiveness.

His efforts were in vain, however, as everyone from the club’s management to the dressing room were angry and disappointed with the 30-year-old’s behaviour, not wanting him to return.

President Steven Zhang shares this position and has shut down the idea of a possible return for the Belgian striker.

Lukaku’s mother Adolphine also played a role in the striker’s recent troubles. She, as well as lawyer Sebastien Ledure, pushed the 30-year-old to consider other clubs due to various factors like Simone Inzaghi’s decisions and the player’s substitute appearances in the Champions League.

  1. Once bitten twice shy. NO to the return of Romelo Lukaku at Appiano Gentile because he is not trust worthy anymore. If at a very delecate time both for him and for the club he had the guts to go on secret deals with the arc-rivals of Inter, what would be his position at other times when he will be on the pitch?
