La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Chelsea are considering paying a club record fee for Milan forward Rafael Leao.
The report details how the Premier League side are big fans of the 23-year-old Portuguese forward, believing him to be the right addition to boost Thomas Tuchel’s attack following the departures of players like Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner. Milan are not interested in selling Leao, but with his contract expiring in 2024, they could be forced into a tough spot.
Chelsea may pay up to €120m in order to secure Leao in the remaining days of the transfer window, but a deal would be extremely complicated. Not only do Milan not want to sell, but the player owes Sporting CP €16.5m after a unilateral contract termination and the Rossoneri also need to give 15% of the sale to Lille due to a future resale clause.
A deal could cost around €150m in total, which was Leao’s previously active release clause. It’s hard to imagine this transfer occurring, especially this late in the summer transfer window, but Chelsea may still try regardless.
Please sell! He’s obviously overrated.
I’m okay with this.
In an age where players run down contracts for fun, and FFP is always targetting Milan – sell now, sell high and use the money wisely.
I believe Milan would accept anything above 100M for Leao as he lacks consistency.
So Chelsea would be 250 million in the hole and that is ok with uefa?
@Gino yes, rules for thee but not for me.
Agreed, sell him for anything plus 60 million Euro, I know he is worth more but in a year he is for free.
No. If it was at the start of the window then maybe because Maldini could sign his targets which all needed up at different clubs eventually. This late in the window? Absolutely not.
Milan should wait for Redbird to complete the take over and then renew with him.
@ Kristiano
You keep saying he’ll be a free agent in a year. No he will not. He has a contract until 2024, that’s two more years.
Sell!! then get pulisic, berrardi, a CM, a backup CD and a backup LB and have a surplus of money!
