Milan have already opened talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Stefano Pioli’s dream is to reunite with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Rossoneri will bolster their options in midfield in 2023-24, signing at least one new central midfielder. It could be two, as Ismael Bennacer will be out for at least six months following a knee injury. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are looking for a midfielder similar to Franck Kessié, who can play as CM and CAM, providing balance and quality.

The Rossoneri directors have already opened talks with Chelsea over Loftus-Cheek, confirms Gazzetta. The Englishman can cover both roles in midfield and the Blues’ asking price is circa €25m.

The contract of the 27-year-old expires in June 2024 and the same is true of Lazio star Milinkovic-Savic. Pioli already trained the Serbia international at the Stadio Olimpico and according to Gazzetta, SMS is his ‘dream’ for the summer.

Given that his contract runs out in 2024, Gazzetta claims Lazio won’t ask for more than €25-30m for their midfield star. However, it remains to be seen if Claudio Lotito will agree to sell SMS for such a fee given that he demanded more than €100m less than a year ago.

Lazio director Tare spoke about SMS’ future on Monday night, in an interview with Sky Sport Italia: “For the good of everyone, we will sit around a table and clarify this. What I say for me is also valid for him, he has a strong bond with Lazio, he admires and respects the club and coach. Anything can happen, including that he could be sold to another club.”

2 thought on “Chelsea man emerges as Milan’s top transfer target, but Pioli dreams of SMS”
  1. Wouldn’t it make more sense to buy Kessie? I’m sure we all remember the guy from that time we won the league.

  2. DB Milan: try to use your brain: you`re saying Milan should pay transfer fee to Barcelona, signing on-fee to Kessie and agent fees after Kessie betrayed the club?!

PS: Good luck buying SMS ahahahaha
