Tammy Abraham’s recent joke with Trent Alexander-Arnold has caused many Roma fans anxiety that he’ll look for a return to the Premier League next summer.

The 24-year-old Englishman joined the Giallorossi last summer from Chelsea in a deal worth around €40m. Notably, the transfer also included a buy-back clause set at €80m, valid from next summer. Things have started incredibly well in the Italian capital for Abraham, who netted 17 goals in his debut Serie A season.

His great start to life in Italy is why some Roma fans are a little anxious now following his recent joke with Alexander-Arnold, which came after an England training session, where he said “Trent, good luck, I’m joining you guys next season!” Whilst the meaning is vague, fans on both sides of the spectrum have taken these words and ran with them.

Abraham has never hidden his happiness at the interest from a number of English clubs, who a year ago were not keen on him, but he’s also fallen in love with Roma and their fans, never failing to show gratitude and respect.

It’s likely that this problem will arise as next summer’s transfer window approaches, giving Jose Mourinho and the fans another year to enjoy the Englishman. Clubs in the Premier League that are keen to pick up Abraham currently include Chelsea and Arsenal, and possibly Liverpool.
