The reports had emerged in the Corriere dello Sport and the Telegraph newspaper over the last 24 hours.

Now Sport Bild chief Christian Falk has given this story the valuable tick of truth on his Twitter account.

Haaland is the first choice for several clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea, but only one – or even none – will get the Borussia Dortmund hitman.

Lukaku is seen as a slightly older, but more experienced, alternative by Chelsea and Barcelona.

It would be a return to Stamford Bridge, as the Belgium international already played there in 2011-12, but was loaned to West Bromwich Albion and Everton before the sale for €35m.

However, Inter have not the slightest intention of letting Lukaku go, having spent €75m to sign him from Manchester United.

If they were forced to sell due to liquidity issues, Lautaro Martinez would be a more likely option to leave.
