The competition keeps growing for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, as Atalanta, Juventus and Southampton are joined by Chelsea in the race.

The Denmark international emerged as a strong target for La Dea this summer and they have already seen two offers rejected, the most recent set at a reported €17m.

Their interest further raised his profile, with Juventus and Southampton keeping a close eye on the situation too.

Chelsea in for O’Riley too

Now The Scottish Sun and Sky Sports News claim that Chelsea have joined the battle, or at least they will if Conor Gallagher accepts a transfer to Atletico Madrid.

It stands to reason, as Atletico Madrid had already made an approach for O’Riley in January, so he has similar tactical characteristics.

Atalanta have a few significant advantages compared to Chelsea, as they are in the Champions League and can also guarantee more regular playing time rather than the crowded midfield at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Premier League side would be more likely to meet the massive €30m asking price set by Celtic, according to TEAMtalk.
