Chelsea have reportedly promised to help Milan star Rafael Leao with his €18m debt with Sporting CP should he join the club in the summer.

The 23-year-old Portuguese star, whose current contract expires with the Rossoneri in June 2024, has been ordered to pay Sporting around €18m after unilaterally terminating his contract with the club in August 2018 following an attack on the Portuguese side’s training ground from the ultras.

The issue of Leao’s debt with Sporting is no secret and is said to be an important part of the contract renewal negotiations with Milan.

As reported by La Stampa, Chelsea have given Leao specific guarantees regarding his debt with Sporting, promising to help him with the €18m fine.

This could be a key element in the Blues’ attempts to woo the 23-year-old ahead of a possible move in the summer. The Premier League giants emerged for Leao late in the summer transfer window last year and are expected to return at the end of this season.
