Chelsea full-back Reece James praised Roma forward Tammy Abraham after he became the English player with the most Serie A goals in a single season.

Abraham’s goal in the Giallorossi’s 3-0 victory over Torino to close off their league campaign brought him up to 17 – which is one more than the previous record set by Gerry Hitchens for Inter in 1961-62.

On Friday, James tweeted: “History made. Most goals by an Englishman in a single Serie A season @tammyabraham.”

Abraham has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in Italy and endeared himself to Roma fans with his double in the derby win over Lazio as well as the winner against Leicester City which took them to the Europa Conference League final.

James and Abraham graduated through the Chelsea academy together and spent two seasons together in the first team at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham left Chelsea in the summer after winning the Champions League and has made 52 appearances for Roma in all competitions, scoring 27 goals.
